minijam studio - portable music machines

Created by Patchblocks

The compact electronic music studio that lets you jam with synths and drum machines. Developed by the makers of Patchblocks. We are taking the idea of a music studio or live performance setup, built entirely out of hardware, and boiled it down to a range of very compact and affordable products. It gives you the feel and fun of jamming with hardware equipment, all bundled in a ready-to-use set with an impressive sound quality. For more information please visit www.patchblocks.com or the Kickstarter campaign site. All Patchblocks units, which are not part of the minijam studio, will be shipped directly!

Hi everyone,

it's time for another update. Thanks for taking part in the survey last time. It gave me a really good insight into what design and aesthetics you want. Seems like the fancy prints aren’t really necessary … and maybe giving the sidepanels an overhaul to make them more minimalistic.

Sascha and I were quite busy last week finishing some prototypes for journalists. Filip and I mended a few things in the tek.waves firmware, while Sascha put together the products in Germany and sent them out in the post.

He also went briefly to the Musikmesse in Frankfurt for a day – apparently it wasn’t very busy there this year. Superbooth in Berlin is probably going to be more interesting, but unfortunately we’re not exhibiting this time. However, I will fly down to Berlin on Thursday morning, pop my head in and say hi to a few people. So if you see me there, would be great to have a chat! I fly back the same day.

These updates are also a good opportunity to give you guys a behind the scenes look into our working environment. Here is a picture of Filip looking at some waveforms of the tek.waves at an oscilloscope.

Also, as it has been requested in the comments, I made a video showing how Patchblocks, Pocket Operators etc. all work together. The hub didn’t have enough inputs, so I added our new PBMIX-3 to the setup. In order to get the triggers to the Patchblock and Volca, I had to use some tricks. Luckily the PO could forward the triggers from input to output, so I could then feed it to the Patchblock, which then turned it into MIDI Clock and sent it to the Volca. This meant all devices get a sync signal, and additional audio signals where mixed in the PBMIX.

That’s all for now. Happy Easter!

Absolutely amazing …

… we cracked the 50K, because you made it happen! Thank you so much for all this support and your appetite for our new products ;)

What amazed us, was the fact that we recognised so many names in the backer list. A special thank you to all our supporters that have stayed with us since the first campaign, customers that ordered Patchblocks from us before, and the pro-Patchblockers that are active in our community.

Talking about the forum, I just added a section where you can post your ideas or discuss features that you would like to see. I am also curious what you guys think about the actual design of the product … the look of the side-panels, print etc. I really want to use the opportunity of this campaign to get some insight into what people like, and what not so much. If the timeframe allows for it, we can change some things based on your input.

A big shout also goes out to our friends in Canada. The Discovery Channel Canada got in touch with us and want to feature the minijam studio in their Daily Planet show. I think this is brilliant, not only because it gives us great coverage, but mainly because it reaches out to a much wider audience. Part of our vision behind this product is to excite more people about music hardware - people that aren’t necessarily music-tech-heads.

Also, there will be a live online ask.audio master class with me showing how to work the minijam machines. It’s on the 27th of April, 12:00pm (PT) / 20:00pm (GMT).

Keep telling people about this project, together we’re going to make this awesome!

All the Best from
